The aroma of freshly baked bread filled the kitchen. Maya smiled, watching the dough rise, the process a calming ritual. The rhythmic kneading and the warm oven were incredibly soothing. The kitchen felt peaceful, hers and hers alone.

"A fish? That's what you want?" David scoffed, leaning against the counter. "What's the point? They just sit there, staring."

Maya’s hands stilled, the peacefulness dissipating. “They’re beautiful, David, and calming to watch.” She looked towards the window, imagining a colourful aquarium. He rolled his eyes, the atmosphere shifting.
